Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 1, 2026
Amazon Price Tracker ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.
Data We Collect
The Extension collects only the minimum data necessary to provide price tracking functionality:
- ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) of products you view
- Price of the product at the time of observation
- Marketplace (e.g., amazon.com, amazon.fr, amazon.de)
- Anonymous device ID (randomly generated, not linked to your identity)
Data We Do NOT Collect
- No personal information (name, email, address)
- No browsing history outside Amazon product pages
- No Amazon account information or credentials
- No payment or financial information
- No cookies or cross-site tracking
- No analytics or third-party tracking scripts
Local Storage
Your price history and watchlist are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage API. When you use the watchlist feature, your watchlist data is automatically synced with our server to enable features like price drop alerts.
Watchlist Sync
When you add products to your watchlist, the data (ASINs, target prices, and marketplace) is automatically synced with our server and linked only to your anonymous device ID. This allows the Extension to check for price drops and send you notifications. No personal data is transmitted or stored.
Community Price Data
When you browse Amazon product pages, the Extension sends anonymous price observations (ASIN, price, marketplace, timestamp) to our server. This data is aggregated across all users to build price history charts. Individual observations cannot be traced back to any user.
Data Retention
- Individual price observations are aggregated after 30 days (converted to daily min/max/avg)
- Aggregated data is deleted after 90 days
- Local browser data persists until you uninstall the extension or clear it manually
Cross-Marketplace Comparison
The Extension includes a cross-marketplace comparison feature that fetches Amazon product pages from your browser to extract and compare prices across 12 Amazon marketplaces. These requests are made directly from your browser — no proxy or third-party server is involved. Only the product ASIN, price, currency, and marketplace domain are extracted from these pages.
Affiliate Disclosure
This extension adds an Amazon Associates affiliate tag to product links. When you make a purchase through Amazon, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is disclosed in the Chrome Web Store listing. This commission helps fund the development and maintenance of the Extension. Affiliate links do not affect the prices you see or pay.
Third-Party Services
The Extension communicates only with our own API server (apt.sydney-boisseau.com) to send and receive price data. No data is shared with any third party.
Your Rights (GDPR)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:
- Access any data associated with your anonymous device ID
- Delete all data associated with your anonymous device ID
- Object to the processing of your data by contacting us
- Export your local price history and watchlist data
Since no personal data is collected, most of these rights are automatically satisfied. If you wish to exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
